Progress is coming along with the tank, seat cowl and frame now painted. The tank and cowl colour scheme is Glass Black, Silver and Metallic British Racing Green II finished off with clear coat. The frame has been powder coated in Gloss Black.
To be honest I was a little nervous driving to the shop wondering how the colour selection worked out but was instantly relieved when I saw it. I'm completely blow away with the quality of work and just how good the Metallic British Racing Green II has come up.
I wanted to preserve the heritage of the original Honda CB200 tank and decided to keep with the same pattern and extend the design onto the seal cowl using the silver stripe. The metallic green brings the bike to life. To be honest, I think there may be only a handful of bikes out there with the same colour scheme and am very proud of this unique look.
The chrome trims that came off the tank are being polished and the stitched tank padding will go back on soon too. The original HONDA badges will also go back on the tank however these are not being restored. They currently have a couple of scuffs and blemishes which I didn't wanted fixed to give a small insight into the rustic tank and bike this all began as.
At present, the engine is current away being welded. In the bikes past lift, the chain must have come off and bused out the front sprocket chain guide. This guide is required to have the bike registered so the part of the case where the guide bolts into is being welded, drilled and tapped out so that the guide can be bolted back on.
Once the engine is back, it will be its turn to be cleaned, polished and painted.

Hey mate, love your progress (I've been checking in for maybe two years now!)
ReplyDeleteBout to cut the subframe of my own XR and start down your road. Paint looks great!
Ben
Thanks for the feedback mate.
DeleteHope to have some new photos up shortly.
Glad to hear you are starting your own project. Will you be doing a blog or uploading photos somewhere? Would be interested in seeing how you go.
Best of luck!
Jason
