I feel like I have finally hit a milestone with the rails and seat installed. What I have learnt is most things take much longer than you expect. When I first purchased the bike with the intention of building a cafe racer, I thought I may have it complete in time to make the 2015 Deus Bike Build Off, was I wrong! Rain check for 2016.
Two rails were welded across to form the seat support for the rider. A plate was also cut to fit neatly inside the cowl out of sight to allow fixing of brake light, indicators and possibly a rear guard. The combination of these made a very strong base.
Apart from cleaning up the welds, grinding up and bogging the old seat support mounting positions the next big job is getting the engine back in and working out where I need to weld the rear break cylinder as this was previously mounted to the old seat brace.
I was very lucky that the new riding position is very comfortable and there is no need to move the foot pegs.

Two 4 mm plates of steel had to be welded onto the frame to allow the seat rails to be mounted higher. This ensured I get that smooth line between the tank and the bottom of the seat pan.
The seat frame had to be bent further so that it would fit in between the gap at the rear of the fuel tank. I used a thin walled steel pipe which made bending and shaping reasonably easy however made welding with an ARC welder more challenging. Lots of care had to be taken to ensure a hole wasn't blown into the pipe.
Seat pan all welded up, just need to install the two supports.
And here is the final product! Very pleased with the outcome. Once the 90 mm high walled wheel goes on the front, the line of the tank and seat 'should' be parallel to the ground.Apart from cleaning up the welds, grinding up and bogging the old seat support mounting positions the next big job is getting the engine back in and working out where I need to weld the rear break cylinder as this was previously mounted to the old seat brace.
